While everyone was touting Lindsay Lohan as 'the next big thing,' quiet little Amanda Seyfried made a name for herself not as tabloid fodder, but as an actress. She starred as Sophie in Mamma Mia!, is part of the ensemble cast of Big Love and stars opposite Megan Fox in the upcoming Jennifer's Body. With each project, she comes more into her own than the last. She also resembles a younger Michelle Pfeiffer in the shots below taken from Women's Wear Daily.

Big Love
Of all the Mean Girls alumni (besides Tina Fey) who would've imagined that "stoopid" Karen Smith (you know, the one who could predict rain with her breasts?) would end up being the breakout star?

Rosso Valentino!

So I finally checked out Valentino: The Last Emperor. Having garnered much attention when it did the rounds during 2008's film fests, I was very eager to get a peak inside the world of Valentino, his lover, Giancarlo, their five pugs and the HBIC (Head Bitch In Charge for the uncool) seamstress. Oh, and the delicious fashion as well.
The film was shot in a style almost guerrilla- maybe to offset the overt glamour of the luxurious offices, showrooms, museums and galas that Valentino worked in and around. Diamonds on my neck, diamonds on my grill? More like diamonds on my pug, diamonds on it's ears.
Besides his pugs and the nagging nature of his relationship with Giancarlo, my favourite parts of the film are the glimpses into the surreal life of this iconic designer through images of notable members of international royalty and iconic celebrities hobnobbing with Valentino. Not "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here," celebrities, but actual icons like Meryl, Sophia Lauren, Jackie O and Liz Taylor.
Their lifestyle seems so opulent, so extravagant but never obnoxious, undeserved or overdone. It's this lifestyle that is just as awe-inspiring as his designs (and yes, he still sketched until retirement). And yet, there was tremendous restraint. Restraint that seems to be from an era past. Not only is Valentino one of the last couturiers, he is one of the last designers to understand that less is more without reaching into the gimmicks of minimalism or deconstructionism.
A little FYI: he actually finds all of his red dresses to be "simple and stupid." THE HORROR!

LOL
Lady Gaga is making waves for pulling out the crazy couture she's been seen all over Europe in. First the Alexander McQueen cable knit dress and now the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Muppet wear. Too funny.
I first showed you lot these designs back in March- Muppet Marauder.
You could say she's kermitted to her art! HAR HAR

What Would Elinor Dashwood Do? Probably not this.

Can we discuss this? People who get uptight over these (series?) of books need to get over themselves. Jane Austen isn't the Holy Bible, Torah or Qu'ran...The zombies mashup was a romp (and probably the first time Jane Austen has been readable for myself...ever).
Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters is released on September 15th 2009.

Good Deal
This is how you do a sale. What was purchased in this little impromptu excursion?
1. A mid-weight hoody - $5.00
2. Plain gray cotton scarf - $2.00
3. Pink pleated shorts - $5.00
4. H&M Against AIDS/HIV t-shirt designed by Ms. Róisín Murphy - $10.00
Normally I'm not one to advertise how much I paid for things...but this was too good to not share.
"Anna is like...Madonna"
"This type seems so lah-ge and pretentious. It looks like it's for blind people."
God I love this woman.
p.s. "FAMINE OF BEAUTY!" courtesy of André Leon Talley has been my catchphrase as of late.

Tip of my Tongue
So I thought I would take a little break from this blog labour of love.
Well, it wasn't really premeditated to take a break- baby, it just happened. You see, I had quite a few things on the go and in the lead up to the uber-successful book launch the blog served as an escape from budgeting, liaising between the venue and the committee, late-night meetings and some pretty stressful moments.
In the end, stories were read, books were sold, drinks were sipped and sweet potato fries were purchased ($500 worth). To be honest, I truly didn't feel like a graduate until that launch happened. It still feels odd not (necessarily) going back to school in the fall.
Fashion, music, lifestyle, celebrity and all those beautiful, dirty, rich things all fell by the wayside post June 9th. June 2009, by the way, has been very good to me. Blessed I am.
So why am I posting now? Well, I've gotten an itch to write again...for the first time in years actually. Not write for a grade, or a project, or heck, even a book. I just want to write. I promise this, promise this; check this hand 'cuz I'm marvelous.

We Made a Book
Krystal wearing a great find from Jacob; I'm wearing a suit from the Matthew Williamson collection for H&M; Ashley in BCBG. We look great and the launch was beyond anything I could have expected it to be. Thank you for everyone coming out to support local authors independently publishing their work! Supermarket Toront was the perfect venue with the perfect vibe. More pics soon. (Photobucket needs to DIAF).

Last Resort!
Diane Von Furstenberg's Resort Collection 2010 is a little Missoni, a little Aretha inaugural hat and A LOT of fun.
The entire collection is wearable for any demographic and makes me want sail away to a hot destination and spend hours drinking from cups with little umbrellas in them.
What's your fav look?

Epic
I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me. Pa-pa, pa-pa, paparazzi.
Lady Gaga pulls a Madonna and lands super weird-o Jonas Åkerlund to helm this video clip. The video is everything. EVERYTHING.
Stab at Britney? Social commentary about the trappings of stardom? Scathing critique of made-for-tabloid camera chasing pseudo-celebs? Or maybe just a song about stalking the boy of your dreams? Regardless, this adds to my love for Gaga...tenfold.
And maybe you can learn how to say 'kiss kiss' and 'c*nt' in Swedish too.
