Siamese Dream

In these ads for H&M's f/w 2008 line, a simease dream involving model elite highlights key elements for f/w: Cocoon coats, volume, big knits and a post-modern mod influence.

H&M has not only done the great service of providing fashion to mallrats, but it has also managed to make us believe that you too can make a 39.90 coat look couture. Admirable for their effort to bring fashion-forwardness to the mass market, I grow concerned for how pedestrian and trite these looks feel on most. Although Daria and Lilly both look great in these ads, chances are the average shlumpy soccer mom will not.

Who wore it better?

Is it a faux-pas when you borrow your girlfriend's wool cardi?
What if your girlfriend happened to be Kate Moss?

'Chic' and Cheerful Jamie Hince or Cocaine-chic Kate Moss- who owns it?

Jamie's bag is deffo more fab...and his boots are just just. But although I am totally for mixing texture to create interest- I'm not sure how a linen scarf fits with a wool cardigan. Regardless, Jaime takes it.

Haus of GaGa

Now that summer has come to an end, we can celebrate the coming autumn with grande pumpkin spice lattes, cashmere sweaters and layered looks. Sadly though, this means that the days of driving with the windows down while playing your favourite summer tracks, past and present, must come to an end.

I always like to think of my summers as having a complimentary soundtrack. By far though, this summer's song was 'Just Dance' by the vampy, campy, trampy Lady GaGa. 80s retro-glam, electro-pop and unapologetically gimmicky...she embodies everything that is good about a summer jam.

1. Lady Gaga- Just dance
2. The Ting Tings- Shut up and let me go
3. MIA- Paper Planes
4. Rihanna- Disturbia
5. Dragonette- Competition
6. Jennifer Hudson- Spotlight
7. Santogold- Lights Out/Shove it
8. The Pussycat Dolls- When I grow up
9. Common- Universal Mind Control
10. Lykke Li- A little bit

For the love of Marc Jacobs

Marc by Marc Jacobs' Spring 2009 collection is one my favourites from NY Fashion Week. Fresh femininity (with an edge!) for the girls and confidently casual for the guys, Marc makes me yearn for Spring. I love his playfulness and I think this collection really makes its mark (no pun intended!) on what it means to be young, fashionable and fun.

Nouveau

A friend of mine in high school changed her phone number every time she broke up with a boyfriend. This meant that on average, she would get a number every few weeks or months. Starting a new blog is similar to changing your cellular phone number post-traumatic breakup. It is unfortunate however, that a recorded message doesn't play when someone types in an old URL. "We're sorry. The blog you are trying to reach is unavailable. Please exit and try your URL again. This is a recording. We're sorry. The blog..."

It's a good thing having a change of cyber address. Changing and starting over cuts out the possibility of the cyber-equivalent of drunk-dialing, booty call temptation and the always messy 'accident-text/call.'

So here I am, back on 'the scene.' And although I haven't gone through a breakup, I certainly feel that a clean slate from my old URL was needed. Y'know, to clear the air? All I know is that if I were newly single-ready-to-mingle, I'd spend the next few minutes clinking my glass with the people around me and celebrate to a new start.

Cheers
